Is it better to share the apartment with one or more people?

If you share your apartment with your boyfriend or girlfriend - it is if there are no more roommates. If you share the apartment with friends, the rule is: the more the better. The atmosphere is better and the maintenance is easier. But beware, with too many people it can become crowded!

My best friend wants to share an apartment. Good idea?

Your best friend may not be the best roommate. The relationships between friends and roommates are not the same - with your roommate you need to organize your daily life and all the things it brings. It is much easier to find a new roommate, then to find a new friend, so you should think carefully when making such decisions.

Can successfully to study if I live with roommates?

The answer is yes. It is necessary to have mutual understanding and to be organized. You can see a couple of tips on page 10 RULES FOR YOUR LIFE WITH ROOMMATES...

Is it good to live with roommates of the opposite sex?

It depends. Girls should avoid hardened macho types and guys should avoid spoiled princesses, but if you choose well, it can be a great combination for both roommates!

How to split the rent?

It is best to divide it into equal parts among the roommates. However, in some situations apartment will not be divided equally among the roommates. It is best to talk about it at the start, and to find the best solution (either agree to periodically changing room, one roommate who pays more, etc.).

How to fill and empty the fridge?

There are different ways to do it:

  • You can buy everything together and share everything. This way you will significantly reduce costs. Note: if one roommate is a carnivorous and the other vegetarian, avoid this option!
  • Everyone has a separate shelf - it is maybe a stupid solution, but in case roommate's diets do not match, it is the only solution.
  • You can find a middle ground between the two solutions and reserve a portion of fridge for common food, and one part for each roommate.

Should we prohibit access to your room?

This is not a good solution - if you do not trust roommates, should not share the apartment with them. On the other hand, it is necessary to respect the privacy of others - knock before entering a room, don't mess with their things when they are not there ...

Will I get along with my roommate?

Do not be shy during introductions. Ask a lot of questions, make sure you have common interests and values. It is impossible to know in advance how you will get along, but it is important to get to know the future roommate as much as possible in order not to make a mistake in the choice made. Give priority to people who have already lived with roommates.

What should I ask my future roommate?

Cricket or ant? Meticulous or sloppy? MTV or History Channel? Smoker or an asthmatic? (Avoid people who are both at the same time). Morning person or a night owl? Shy or extravagant? Calm or hysterical? And all the rest!
